Extraction Roguelike in Your Browser

Dive a randomly generated pixel dungeon, grab what you can, and only what you carry out through the exit is yours. Free, in the browser, no download.

This page explains what an extraction roguelike is and how VAULTREAVE runs the format directly in a browser tab. It is written for players searching for the genre rather than for a download-first store page.

What is an extraction roguelike?

It is a combination of two older ideas.

An extraction roguelike applies those loot rules to roguelike dungeon runs. VAULTREAVE does this in pixel form, playable in the browser: your stash at camp is always safe, but everything on your body rides on whether you make it out.

The core loop

  1. Dive. Pick a class at camp, slot 2–3 active skills from its skill tree, gear up, and enter a randomly generated dungeon.
  2. Loot. Open chests, break containers, fight monsters, and pick up gear — including items with random affixes.
  3. Read danger. Torchlight is limited. Traps, elites, and the dungeon itself punish greed, so every extra room is a bet.
  4. Extract or push deeper. The blue exit is the safe way out: leave and keep everything you carry. The red route leads a level deeper, where drops are richer and the odds are worse.
  5. Bank and repeat. Back at camp, sell, stash, upgrade, and dive again. Dying mid-run drops all carried items — only the stash survives.

Why play it in the browser

How a first run goes

  1. Open the play link and enter camp. Pick a class; if you have no gear, free starter equipment is issued automatically.
  2. Enter the dungeon and explore by torchlight. Take the loot you understand and avoid the fights you do not.
  3. When you find the blue exit, make the genre's defining decision: leave with what you have, or take the red route deeper for better drops.
  4. If you extract, everything you carried is banked. If you die, you drop your carried items, keep your stash, and get free starter gear for the next dive — so the worst case is a lesson, not a lockout.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes. VAULTREAVE is free and starts directly in the browser. No download and no purchase is required to enter a run. Optional cosmetic and convenience purchases exist — no paid stats.

Is it multiplayer?

Yes. It is an online game. You can play solo or in a squad of up to 4. Note the dungeon itself can hold up to 6 players, so a matched descent may include people you did not invite. Player hostility is part of a normal descent: it is matched in public, so another team can share your dungeon. See the PvE breakdown. Public matchmade descents can place you alongside rival players, and that includes party descents — a party is matched into a public dungeon too. The descents with no strangers are the daily trial, the endless abyss, custom modes, and lone-wolf mode (solo only, costs gold).

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. It runs in a mobile browser with touch controls, and you can add it to your home screen as a PWA for fullscreen play.

How is it different from Tarkov-likes?

The loot economy is the same: what you carry is only yours once you extract alive, and death drops it. The rest is different: VAULTREAVE is a pixel roguelike dungeon rather than a first-person shooter, it opens in a browser tab with nothing to install, and runs fit short sessions instead of long raids.
